Christopher Crawford: About Me

I am a 46 year old professional artist, photographer, and teacher in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Over the past 20 years, my photographs have been featured in many exhibitions around the United States and my work has been sold to collectors around the world.

I fell in love with photography as a young boy. I had a junky plastic fixed-focus 35mm camera that my parents had gotten as a promotional giveaway, and My father had a manual 35mm camera that he used for family snapshots. I loved taking pictures with my crappy camera, and I convinced my dad to teach me to use his manual camera when I was around 8 years old. I began using it so much that he bought another one for me, for my 11th birthday, so that he could have his back!

I still remember the amazement I felt as I developed my first black and white print in the darkroom at Elmhurst High School when I was 15. By the time I graduated, I was starting to do paying photography shoots. I went on to earn my Bachelors Degree in Fine Arts and Masters Degree in Literature, and began to exhibit my work in galleries while still an art student.

In all of those years, I have never lost my love of photography, art, history, and literature, and I have never stopped learning. It gives me great pleasure to share my knowledge with others, and to foster in my students the creativity that lives in all of us.

I also love cats, as you can see in my portrait. I took in Sneaky after he came up to me in my front yard late one night in November, 2018. He was acting very friendly, so I reached down to pet him and felt nothing but bones under all that fur! He was badly malnourished. I gave him some leftover steak I had, and he began hanging around my yard all the time. I discovered that he also had fleas and the vet I took him to found tapeworms. After I got him treated for that, he moved into the house. You can see more of Sneaky on his Instagram.
